S H Fiske shares your commitment to sustainable, environmentally friendly packaging. ‘Green’ packaging doesn’t have to be expensive either, as good design and careful material choices often give you more cost-efficient packaging solutions too.

Designing-out environmentally unfriendly materials
As well as using ‘green’ materials, S H Fiske consciously designs-out hard-to-recycle polystyrene, foam, foil or vacuum-formed inserts wherever possible and uses environmentally friendly alternatives such as corrugated cardboard instead. Corrugated cardboard is strong and gives excellent impact protection. It’s a good insulator too, and can carry the high-quality printing that gives your product point of purchase impact. Corrugated cardboard is one of the most environmentally friendly packaging materials available, sourced mainly from post-consumer recycled waste, plus a small amount from natural, renewable forests for an immediate advantage over alternative packaging materials.

As well as being completely recyclable and fully biodegradable, corrugated cardboard has the best recovery and recycling rate of all UK packaging, with 84% already being recycled – equivalent to enough recycled packaging to cover Greater London every four months. What’s more, the European corrugated industry is one of the few industries to meet the targets set by the EU Directive on Packaging and Packaging Waste (94/62/EC).

Towards a long-term environmental policy
S H Fiske is currently working towards the ISO 14001 Environmental Management standard. At least 90% of the material we use is recycled post-consumer waste, production waste is minimised, collected and recycled as part of the paper and board recycling loop, surplus production materials are recycled through The Children’s Scrapstore charity and our flexo printing process uses water-based inks.
